New streets named in memory of former leader of Birmingham City Council

We had the pleasure today of honouring the late Councillor Theresa Stewart by holding a ceremony to name the two new streets on our development The Canopies, in Billesley, Birmingham, after her: The two new streets were named “Theresa Way” and “Stewart Close”.
Councillor Theresa Stewart served as a Councillor for Billesley ward for 32 years from 1970 to 2002, and was the first and to date only female leader of Birmingham City Council from 1993 to1999. She also served as Lord Mayor of Birmingham from 2001 to 2002. She saw her role as a Councillor as doing for poor people, what lawyers did for rich people and was a prolific campaigner for women’s equality, rights and representation. She passed away in 2020 aged 90. You can read more about Councillor Theresa Stewart on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theresa_Stewart
We were joined at the naming ceremony by Councillor Stewart’s family and friends, management from our client Citizen Housing, and several of our subcontractors and suppliers. Councillor Phil Davies led the proceedings giving a lovely talk about the many achievements of Councillor Theresa Stewart during her long and dedicated public service.
Many thanks to everyone that joined us to mark the occasion and make it a special memory for Councillor Stewart’s family. Thanks also to Councillor Katherine Iroh who helped coordinate the event.
